Do you like your violin music highly dramatic and unpredictable . . . with tender, beautiful melodies one moment, and violent outbursts in the next? Then the Romantic Era is for you! Running from around 1825 to 1910, the Romantic Era ushered in a new, more personally expressive style of music. Famous Romantic Era composers are Johannes Brahms, Hector Berlioz, and Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The music for violin in this era became more technically challenging to reflect the wider expressive range. Composers pushed the boundaries of what could be done on the violin, requiring the technique to expand dramatically. Despite all this, there are many simple and beautiful themes from the Romantic Era that can be played by even beginner violinists.
