In this arrangement the cello and violin pass the melody back and forth as two characters speaking to each other. The lyrics of this children's song tell a story of a leaky bucket that Henry and Liza attempt to fix. Through several repeated verses, the children encounter obstacles only to realize in the end, their impossible task. First they find straw to mend the hole, but the straw is too long. They try to cut the straw with an ax, but the ax is too dull. They go to sharpen the ax with a stone, but the stone is too dry. In order to wet the stone, they need water, which brings the story back to the leaky bucket, which can't be used because there's a hole.
