Practice Notes
Meditation starts in C major, but moves through several other keys. The middle section uses G minor and A minor and requires some stretches to get the notes in tune. In G minor, you will need to play F# and Bb, and in A minor, there are G# and C natural. These combinations require a large stretch that many violinists have to work on. Also be sure to follow the bowings closely. It will help you stay in the correct part of the bow for the longer notes. When a longer slur is coming up, get to the tip or frog so that you have enough room to play the full value of the slur with a good tone.

Song Information
Frank Bridge (1879 - 1941) was an English composer and violist who is possibly best known for teaching the great 20th century composer, Benjamin Britten. This beautiful short piece for violin and piano, called "Meditation" is the first movement of "Four Short Pieces for Violin and Piano" published in 1912. The following movements are Spring Song, Lullaby, and Country Dance. They are all excellent pieces for intermediate level violinists to study and enjoy.
