God Rest Ye is a very simple beginner level piece. The elements that a beginner may have to practice to learn this carol are using 4th finger and doing slurs. Usually, beginners have a hard time stretching their 4th finger high enough to make the correct pitch. Try developing this technique, but if you want, you can always substitute the next higher open string for the 4th finger. So when you see an A4, you can play an E0 instead and it will sound the same. Also the tempo is a bit fast for beginners, so start learning it slowly and work your way up.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Information
This is one of the oldest Christmas carols known. It was written by an unknown composer sometime in the 16th century or even earlier. It is also known as God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen. The comma before Gentlemen is there because the word Merry actually describes how the listener is to Rest, rather than a description of the Gentlemen. One of the most famous versions of this carol was written by the heavy metal band Savatage, which expanded into the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The title is Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) and it features the melody of God Rest Ye as in introduction which then leads to a reworking of Carol of the Bells. This version was used on an episode of The Office where Dwight and others rock out to this heavy metal Christmas carol.
