Practice Notes

This is a very simple beginner level piece in the key of G major. There are some important 4th finger notes to play so that you don't have to change strings for just one note. If you need, work on the strength and flexibility of the 4th finger so these notes can be in tune and have a good sound. Also, beginners may need to practice going from D3 to AL2, which happens twice in this arrangement. Many beginners will either not reach up far enough for the 3rd finger or will not reach back far enough for the L2. Make sure to stretch the 2nd and 3rd fingers apart enough to land on the correct spots on the fingerboard.

Go Tell It On the Mountain Information

This African-American spiritual is considered a Christmas carol because it refers to the birth of Christ. Specifically it tells the story of the shepherds in their fields hearing the chorus of angels announcing the Nativity. The lyrics go on to tell a more personal story of seeking the way to live in the manner that Christ teaches. No one knows for sure who wrote this spiritual, but it was first published in a collection of spirituals in 1907.
