The Four Romantic Pieces by Dvorak are perfect works for an intermediate level player to study. They were originally written as a string trio for two violins and viola and were intended for performance by an amateur, which explains why they are much easier to perform than the rest of Dvorak's repertoire. The trio version was rearranged in 1887 as a piece for violin and piano.
The fingerings used in this edition were chosen for simplicity so that an intermediate level player can learn the piece fairly quickly. Once a certain level of mastery is achieved, you can learn more expressive fingerings that require shifting far more often.
