The western folk ballad Oh My Darling Clementine, seems at first to be a sorrowful tale of loss, but upon closer study, is really a parody of sad ballads of the time. Silly elements mixed in with the tale of the death of a beloved girl proves that the intent is humor rather than heartache and mourning. In the song, it is pointed out that Clementine's feet were so big she had to wear boxes instead of shoes. Near the end, the sad author of this tale gets one kiss from Clementine's sister, and immediately forgets about her!
