Matt DKeymasterWe’ve just added guitar support on the StringClub. It isn’t much with just a few songs initially, but we’re trying to refine the functionality and add songs as we make improvements to fingering logic and how our ScrollTab and sheet music will work with guitar. We’d love your feedback on what you like and dont like about how we’re doing with guitar and this forum thread is the place for that.

dillon49ParticipantHi Seems a very good upgrade to the site . Is it possible to upload into it yet. Do you need to do anything differently

Matt DKeymasterYou should be able to upload songs to guitar. Make sure you pick guitar melody in the upload. Also, make sure you pick guitar for the tracks that have the lead or rhythm tracks.

dillon49ParticipantHi Thanks . I did this with a tune “Classical gas” which uploaded and plays as a guitar piece , however on the song lists it shows as a violin piece ( it shows the violin graphic against the piece in the list) Strangely though all my other uploads now show a guitar graphic against them

dillon49ParticipantSorry should have said also . the piece does not show in the guitar catalogue either although I uploaded it from the guitar page

Matt DKeymasterI reviewed the song and saw that it was classified as Violin Melody. Did you pick the Guitar Melody option from the instrument drop down? I’ve moved the song over to guitar so you’ll see it there now.

Matt DKeymasterAlso, Thanks dillon49 for the first member upload guitar song. I know we have some work to do on the support for guitar and will work to keep up with uploads as I can. I notice there are some chords we’re not recognizing and I will work on that.

Matt DKeymasterDillon49, the Classical Gas song shows lots of weaknesses in our tools for a piece like that. We’re still working with simple songs for beginners. I would really like to work on the tool functions to better support this. For example, not showing chord names as we’re doing, and figuring out fingering automatically better than we do for that piece. If you’re interested to talk about this piece, just let me know here in the thread.

dillon49ParticipantHI Matt
Apologies if the piece was a bit of a challenge for the software at the moment . it was a midi file that I used on another programme so it was handy to check the upload process. Not sure what I did when I uploaded it , I tend to input things automatically without thinking. The process has however changed the icons of all my other uploads to say they are guitar pieces , which seems a bit weirdDave

Matt DKeymasterNo, its all good. I’m going to work on the code a bit to make your piece more usable with our tools. This is a bit of a growing point for us too. Also, the images used on the songs are based on the categories. Right now if you choose classical it will show a violin graphic and if you chooose country or one of those it uses the guitar. Its not representative of the instrument it is a reflection of the category.

dillon49ParticipantThanks Matt All my fiddle uploads were in the folk category so I assume then that folk songs show the guitar also

Matt DKeymasterIf you’re on the guitar section of the site and use the blue upload button it will default to guitar melody so you wont have to pick it. I’m thinking you were in the violin section of the site and did the upload of the guitar song. You can do that, but you’d want to change the target instrument to guitar or it will assume you’re uploading a song for violin.

Matt DKeymasterI just updated the site to add an option in the editor to have more fine tune control over how chords are handled. Now a track can pick between only showing the first note of a chord (no chords), showing the chord names when recognized, or showing the chord fingerings without chord names and not showing the chord pattern boxes. I’ve setup the Classical Gas upload to use the option to show chord fingerings and I think that works out better.
Dillon49, would you mind reviewing the fingering shown on that piece and let me know if you find the fingering choices ok? The editor can be used to setup the hand position to a given fret which will impact how the code picks fingering. Also, each note can have a fingering override provided and not use the auto selected fingering.

dillon49ParticipantHi matt,
It looks good . I know it predominantly in first position so this is all pretty familiar. I will explore the other options in a couple of weeks when I am back from my travels
Thanks againMarch 4, 2019 at 2:35 pm #13440
Mikayla TuppurainenParticipantCan you please add some radio songs?
